Chandni Bar, as the title suggests, revolves around a bargirl. The movie is not one of those run-of-a-mill scripts.

This is the story of a bar dancer, Mumtaz who arrives in Mumbai in 1985 after loosing her parents and everything else in the communal riots in her village. In the beginning she wonders what else does she have to loose, but fate had a lot in store for her.

Her troubles continue when her uncle takes her to a bar where wine and money flow all around.

One night, her uncle rapes her, but still she decides to live throughout the trauma with the same person who was responsible for this.

She gets married to Potya, an underworld henchman who is a terror. She also gives birth to two lovely children, a boy and a girl and aspires that they become nothing like their parents.

Fate takes a different turn; police in an encounter at the behest of his own gang members kills Potya. The same people, who posed best friends of Potya when he was alive, now ridicule her.

But her only aim in life was the upbringing of her children. Fate plays along.

There have been so many films made in the past, which deals with the underworld or the police. One must congratulate the director, Madhur Bhandarkar for attempting a subject, to reveal so much about the lives of bar girls who earn their living by dancing in bars.

The director seems to have done his homework very well before going ahead with the film. The film catches your attention from the word go and an impact. The film does have its weak point; it becomes heavy after a point of time. The film looses it pace in the second half of the film, but it gets the momentum again in the pre-climax. The climax is mind blowing.

The entire star cast has given their best performances. The director has fine-tuned the performance of all the movie stars. The dialogues have been very well written too.

Tabu has once again come up with an award winning performance. Her performance is the biggest highlight of the film. Atul Kulkarni is first-rate. Rajpal Yadav as Iqbal Chamdi has done a very good job and so has Sri Vallabh Vyas. Ananya Khare is all right.

All said and done, CHANDNI BAR is a must see film.
